Although some members of the community to which this letter was written needed solemn warnings for their unbelief and immaturity, others had clearly shown by their changed lives that they were genuine believers. How did they demonstrate this (Hebrews 6:9-10) and what encouragement is there for us in Hebrews 6:10? Is there anything we need to do as believers to enable us experience God’s promises for us (Hebrews 6:12)?
Notice how Abraham received what God had promised him (see Hebrews 6:15). We can totally depend on God’s promises, “that He would never change His mind” (Hebrews 6:17, NLT) because He has bound Himself with an oath. God has given us both His promise and His oath, and nothing can change them because it is impossible for God to lie. We who have put our faith in God can have confidence in the hope set before us. The security of our salvation in Jesus Christ is based on His priesthood which is of a higher and superior order, the order of Melchizedek. It is also a permanent order, secured in heaven and assured by God Himself (Hebrews 6:19,20).
And So
Cheer up! God is faithful to perform His promises to you no matter how long you have waited.

* Understanding of school visitors, coordinating teachers and the students, of the purpose for the week • Wisdom to cope with the activities of the week and their studies • More students to be evangelized, and souls to be won to the kingdom.
